This onshore/offshore basin is situated in the northeast region of Brazil and covers the Sergipe and Alagoas States. The Maragogi High divides it from Pernambuco-Paraiba Basin to the north. The Estancia Platform defines the onshore limit to the south and the southern offshore boundary with Jacuipe Basin lies across the Vaza-Barris fault system.

The onshore portion has an area of 13,000 km2, whilst the offshore area extends to 32,760 km2 up to 3,000m bathymetric contour. This offshore area was recently covered by a 2D spec survey. The exploratory effort in the basin resulted in the discovery of 28 fields, 23 onshore and 5 offshore. A recent deepwater discovery of light oil points to a new exploration front in the basin. Current production is approximately 23,000 barrels per day of oil equivalent.

Characterization of Crude Oils
	GSI is conducting a new geochemical study of oils from the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin of Brazil designed to identify and compare the petroleum systems that have contributed to accumulations in this important area. The study includes approximately seventy (70) crude oils representing the major fields and producing horizons. Samples will be analyzed using state-of-the-art oil fingerprinting techniques to evaluate the major factors governing oil quality and quantity including: (1) source facies, (2) thermal maturity, (3) distance of migration from source to trap, (4) extent and timing of biodegradation, and (5) degree of oil mixing.

Integrated Studies Focused on areas offered during ANP Bid Rounds
	These studies provide an integrated analysis of the petroleum systems of the onshore and offshore basins of Brazil based on geochemically oriented studies that were performed by Geochemical Solutions International (GSI). The goal of these studies is to provide a consistent and objective analysis of the various petroleum systems that can be used as an exploration tool specifically focused on exploration cells offered in ANP Round 8.
